The biggest wedding trends of the moment

Without a doubt, 2020 was a hallmark year. After months of being stuck in our homes, we're so excited that weddings are back, and we can celebrate our special day with family and friends, just how it should be!

Whether you're just starting out on your wedding planning journey or looking to add some extra touches to your upcoming big day, it's time to get inspired and take a look at the 4 wedding trends currently commanding the industry.

1. Keeping things simple

Although restrictions have been eased and big weddings are making a comeback, there's still high demand for smaller, more intimate celebrations like a marquee set up in a garden, or a festival-themed wedding with glamping to boot.

If you're thinking about doing something similar and don't know where to start, check out Viva La Tipi, Yurts for Life and Portobello Tents.

2. Going back to nature

The climate crisis is, quite rightly, front of mind for so many of us, and couples are now making conscious choices when it comes to their big day. We've seen many requesting simplicity and all things natural. For example, having greenery in marquees to bring the outside in, and long greenery runners on tables.

If you want to incorporate greenery into your wedding, take a look at Me and My Bloomers, who take inspiration from the English garden and countryside, or Flower and Press, who use fair trade and ethically sourced growers.

If you want to make your wedding more sustainable, try our carbon offsetting tool, which helps you to work out the carbon footprint of your day and then allows you to offset it by funding global green projects via our partner, Ecologi.

3. Casual dining

Where a sit-down meal with individually plated dishes used to feel like the only option for wedding catering, that all changed with the explosion of street food culture. Street food is on-trend, diverse, delicious and often made to order right in front of your eyes, making it a great option for a laidback main meal, or as a snack for guests who get the midnight munchies after dancing the night away!

If you're struggling to decide what street food to provide, let us nudge you to Last Night a Vegan Saved My Life and Rolling Dough.

If you're more of a traditionalist and want a sit down meal, a family-style sharing platter is a popular option that will get everyone round the table chatting and getting to know each other, if they don't already! If we were you, we would go for Pit and Plate Ltd, or plant-based Omni Collective.

Grazing boards have also seen an upsurge in recent years and could be great to include on your big day. If you're looking for something a bit different to wow your guests, then Bite Around The World serves colourful fresh, delicious South Asian grazings.

4. Unique cake options

According to our resident wedding planner, Natasha, cheese towers have become a popular replacement for the traditional wedding cake. What's not to like about indulging yourself in a bit of brie and goat's cheese on your big day? However, the traditional wedding cake hasn't wholly gone out of the window. We've seen many couples integrating their cakes with a "harvest table" set up for canapés. And for our sweet-toothed couples, a traditional wedding cake with pressed edible flowers (as a decorative option) is another sought-after alternative.
