Twins and professional chefs, Kareema and Kaleema, launched Livity Plant-Based Cuisine together to showcase Ital food - completely vegan, whole-food Caribbean favourites. You can expect slow-cooked, rich curries, hot scotch bonnets and sweet plantains. Normally they’re feeding their deliciously healthy food to the public and event guests but they’ve certainly kept busy during lockdown with weekly home deliveries, an online product shop, and an e-book full of recipes!

Artel’s is an event catering company putting a British spin on classic Jamaican street food using family recipes handed down through generations. Their founder Joel wants to celebrate these age-old Jamaican recipes with a modern approach, presenting Caribbean food in a different light. In Joel’s words, their ‘approach to Caribbean cuisine is simple. Everyone is invited’. Their menu consists of Jerk chicken, pork and halloumi, as well as curries, awesome sides, Jerk burgers and fries.

Artel’s have seen widespread success since their launch and are developing the company further to spread knowledge, education and wealth not only via food but also through music and events. Design brand, A-COLD-WALL*, recently selected Artel’s as a recipient of their Black business grant alongside 11 other exceptional Black-owned businesses to receive funding to help their businesses continue to grow. In addition, Artel’s are planning to collaborate with a design studio to create a t-shirt to raise money and awareness for Black Minds Matter.

Bringing Senagalese cuisine and culture to London in an explosion of flavour and fun, Little Baobab was created by Khadim after the triumph of his Senagalese pop-up food events with live music. Little Baobab is now famous for their monthly, three-course Sengalese dining pop-ups at various venues across the city with some of London’s finest African musicians. The team also have extensive experience as a trader at large festivals and are available to hire for weddings and private events. Not only that, but Little Baobab has a booking agency for their roster of some of the best UK-based African music acts and they also sell their fresh, hot chilli sauce online, made using Chef Khadim’s mum’s recipe!

Founder Fi quit her finance job in the City to create Lime Hut. The most significant part of Fi’s family life was the Sunday Caribbean dinners but as an adult, she became aware of the dietary health issues facing the Afro-Caribbean community. As Fi became more and more health-conscious, she wanted to develop a way to really enjoy healthy food and that’s where Lime Hut comes in. Lime Hut is a modern take on Caribbean food that uses traditional flavours cooked in a healthier, lighter way. Lime Hut began as a supper club and then broke into the Soho street food scene before expanding to also cater weddings and events. There’s also their incredible mentorship program that’s in its fourth year, ‘Lime Hut Helps’.

Independent street food business, Mama’s Jerk, took Mama Charlotte’s original Jerk recipe and love of good quality ingredients to create exciting Caribbean flavours in a new and modern way. Mama Charlotte’s secret recipe was developed by experimenting with the fresh ingredients grown on her own farm to put her twist on the Jamaican classic. It all began in 2017 as a small family business operating from their home kitchen in South West London. Founded by brothers, Jarrell and Troy, they’ve chased their passion for cooking and unique dining experiences. Their phenomenal menu has an extensive range from jerk wraps, burritos, bagels, burgers and salads to so many vegetarian options, seafood dishes and sides.
